Some of baseball's best power hitters took time to develop their power stroke in the minors, and assessing prospect talent is often about projecting how raw tools will eventually translate to in-game production.

New York Yankees star Aaron Judge never hit more than 20 home runs in a season in the minors before crushing 52 long balls on his way to AL Rookie of the Year honors and instant stardom in 2017.

On the flip side, New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso had a 36-homer, 119-RBI season in the upper levels of the minors the year before he reached the majors and eclipsed Judge's record with a 53-homer season.

In other words, power-hitting prospects come in all shapes, sizes and levels of minor league production.

With that in mind, we've highlighted each team's best power-hitting prospect in 2024.

Coby MayoDavid J. Griffin/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

    Baltimore Orioles: 1B/3B Coby Mayo

Mayo went from an intriguing power bat to one of baseball's top overall prospects last season when he hit .290/.410/.564 with 45 doubles, 29 home runs and 99 RBI in 140 games in the upper levels of the minors. With a .964 OPS and 13 home runs in 42 games at Triple-A, it's only a matter of time before he gets his shot in the majors, though he is currently sidelined with a fractured rib.

Boston Red Sox: OF Roman Anthony

Known more for his advanced hit tool and on-base ability at this point in his career, Anthony still has significant untapped power potential in his athletic 6'2", 200-pound frame. The 20-year-old slugged 14 home runs in 106 games last season while reaching Double-A as a teenager, and he has drawn comparisons to a young Anthony Rizzo when he was climbing the ranks in the Boston farm system.

New York Yankees: OF Jasson Domínguez

One of the most hyped international prospects in recent memory, Dominguez dealt with some ups and downs in the minors before debuting with a bang last season, posting a 157 OPS+ with four home runs in 33 plate appearances before he was sidelined with Tommy John surgery. The 21-year-old has started a rehab assignment and is hitting .380/.429/.690 with six home runs in 77 plate appearances across three levels.

Keep an eye on Agustin Ramirez who is enjoying a breakout season offensively, hitting .276/.368/.566 with 15 home runs and 41 RBI in 51 games at Double-A.

Tampa Bay Rays: 3B Junior Caminero

Caminero made his MLB debut shortly after his 20th birthday last year and ended up playing his way onto Tampa Bay's playoff roster. The precocious infielder has returned to Triple-A to start the 2024 season where he sports an .812 OPS with eight home runs and 24 RBI in 34 games. He is coming off a breakout offensive season last year where he crushed 31 home runs in 117 games between High-A and Double-A.

Toronto Blue Jays: 2B Orelvis Martinez

In his first three seasons stateside, Martinez hit 28, 30 and 28 home runs. The 22-year-old also took a major step forward with his approach at the plate last season, slashing his strikeout rate from 28.6 to 23.8 percent while raising his on-base percentage from .286 to .340. He has shifted to second base this year and is hitting .249/.336/.516 with 15 home runs and 43 RBI in 57 games at Triple-A.

Walker JenkinsJoe Robbins/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

Chicago White Sox: OF George Wolkow

Top prospect Colson Montgomery is a well-rounded offensive player who should hit for plenty of power at the next level, but in terms of pure power-hitting ability, Wolkow is the name to know in the White Sox system. A towering 6'7", 239-pound outfielder with 60-grade power who was a top 2024 draft prospect before reclassifying to 2023, Wolkow will be 18 years old for the entirety of the 2024 season.

    Cleveland Guardians: IF/OF Jhonkensy Noel

Noel is the quintessential 40-hit, 60-power prospect who has 30-homer upside if he can make enough contact to maximize his pop. The 22-year-old hit 59 home runs the past two seasons, but he also batted just .224 with 295 strikeouts in 272 games during that span. He currently has a .909 OPS with 14 home runs and 48 RBI in 55 games at Triple-A.

    Detroit Tigers: 3B Jace Jung

The No. 12 overall pick in the 2022 draft following a productive college career at Texas Tech, Jung had a strong first full professional season, hitting .265/.376/.502 with 28 home runs and 82 RBI in 128 games between High-A and Double-A. The 23-year-old is splitting his time defensively between second base and third base, and he has the offensive profile to be a standout option at either spot.

Kansas City Royals: SS/3B Austin Charles

A 20th-round pick in 2022 who was given fifth-round money, Charles has one of the highest ceilings in the Kansas City system. The 6'5", 215-pound infielder is more potential than production at this point in his career, but if everything clicks, he could be an impact bat at a premium position.

    Minnesota Twins: OF Walker Jenkins

With a strong 6'3", 210-pound frame and a 60-hit, 60-power offensive profile, Jenkins looks the part of a future middle-of-the-order slugger. He was a legitimate candidate to go No. 1 overall in last year's draft before eventually hearing his name called by the Twins who had the fifth pick, and he has hit .351/.434/.536 over the first 41 games of his professional career.

    Houston Astros: OF Luis Baez

Baez racked up 30 extra-base hits in 58 games during his pro debut in the Dominican Summer League in 2022. The 20-year-old followed that up by posting an .838 OPS with 11 home runs in 58 games between rookie ball and Single-A in his stateside debut last year, and the 6'1", 225-pound outfielder has legitimate 30-homer upside as he continues to climb the minor league ladder.

Los Angeles Angels: OF Randy De Jesus

De Jesus was part of the same 2022 international class as top prospect Nelson Rada, and while he has taken a bit longer to emerge as a top-tier prospect, he is turning heads early in the 2024 season. The 6'4", 210-pound outfielder is hitting .297/.368/.510 with 11 doubles and six home runs in 41 games at Single-A, and he will be 19 years old for the entirety of the 2024 season.

    Oakland Athletics: OF Colby Thomas

Thomas hit .325/.451/.734 with 17 home runs in 42 games during his junior season at Mercer University before suffering a shoulder injury that kept him from further padding those impressive stats. The 23-year-old had an 18-homer, 82-RBI pro debut last year, and he is hitting .273/.329/.565 with 17 doubles, 14 home runs and 46 RBI in 54 games at Double-A this year while rapidly climbing the A's organizational prospect list.

    Seattle Mariners: OF Lazaro Montes

Montes has raised his stock as much as any prospect in baseball this year, hitting .329/.426/.559 with 12 home runs and 64 RBI in 54 games at Single-A Modesto. The 19-year-old has a hulking 6'3", 210-pound frame and a smooth left-handed swing with easy power, leading to some early comparisons to Yordan Alvarez. He could likewise spend the bulk of his time at designated hitter once he reaches the majors, but his bat could carry him to stardom.

"Multiple scouts have rightfully pointed out how hard it is to overstate how big he is," wrote MLB.com.

    Texas Rangers: 1B/OF Abimelec Ortiz

Ortiz hit .294/.371/.619 with 33 home runs and 101 RBI in 109 games during a breakout season at Single-A and High-A last year, then posted a 1.060 OPS with three more long balls in 12 games in the Arizona Fall League. The 22-year-old is off to a slow start this year while making the jump to Double-A, but his power is the real deal.

    Atlanta Braves: C Drake Baldwin

Baldwin hit .341/.448/.647 with 19 home runs and 70 RBI in 60 games during his junior season at Missouri State before going in the third round of the 2022 draft, and he continued to flash plus power in his first full pro season. The 23-year-old posted an .845 OPS with 16 home runs in 109 games over three minor league levels last year.

    Miami Marlins: OF Kemp Alderman

The Marlins have one of the thinnest farm systems in baseball, and their top-tier prospects mostly reside on the mound. Alderman hit .376/.440/.709 with 19 home runs and 61 RBI in 54 games at Ole Miss last spring before going in the second round of the 2023 draft, and he has a 60-grade power profile. He is currently sidelined with a broken hand.

New York Mets: 1B/OF Ryan Clifford

Clifford was acquired along with Drew Gilbert in the deal that sent Justin Verlander to the Astros at the trade deadline last summer, and he was one of the breakout prospects of the 2023 season. The 6'2", 200-pound slugger posted an .854 OPS with 24 home runs and 81 RBI in 115 games last season, and while he is off to a slow start this year, his power potential still makes him a top prospect.

    Philadelphia Phillies: SS/3B Aidan Miller

Miller won the Home Run Derby at the All-American Game during All-Star weekend last summer, and he went No. 27 overall in the 2023 draft thanks to some of the best raw power in the draft class. The 20-year-old is hitting .275/.401/.483 with 16 doubles, five home runs and 26 RBI in 39 games at Single-A, and it's only a matter of time before more of those doubles find their way over the fence.

    Washington Nationals: OF James Wood

Acquired from the Padres in the Juan Soto blockbuster, Wood has quickly emerged as one of baseball's elite offensive prospects. The 21-year-old posted an .874 OPS with 26 home runs and 91 RBI in 129 games between High-A and Double-A last year, and he is crushing Triple-A pitching to open the 2024 campaign. With a .355/.465/.596 line and nine home runs in 45 games, and now that he is on the mend from a hamstring issue, he could force his way onto the MLB roster in short order.

    Every MLB Team's Best Power-Hitting Prospect in 2024 (6)

    Owen CaissieMatt Dirksen/Getty Images

    Chicago Cubs: OF Owen Caissie

The Cubs acquired Caissie in the deal that sent Yu Darvish to San Diego prior to the 2021 season, and he vaulted onto Top 100 prospect lists last year when he posted a .918 OPS with 31 doubles, 22 home runs and 84 RBI in 120 games as one of the youngest players at the Double-A level. The 6'3", 190-pound outfielder has 65-grade power and could see the majors later this year as he is off to a strong start in his Triple-A debut.

    Cincinnati Reds: OF Rece Hinds

It seems wrong to pick Noelvi Marte as the Reds best power-hitting prospect when he is actively suspended for PED use, so Hinds gets the nod. The 6'4", 215-pound outfielder has had top-tier raw power since going in the second round of the 2019 draft, and he had a 23-homer, 98-RBI campaign at Double-A last year, but it was accompanied by a 32.8 percent strikeout rate and making consistent contact is the big question mark.

    Milwaukee Brewers: 3B Brock Wilken

Wilken hit 71 home runs in 173 games during his three seasons at Wake Forest, including a stellar junior campaign where he hit .345/.506/.807 with 31 home runs to finish second on the D-I leaderboard. The 6'4", 225-pound slugger reached Double-A in his pro debut, and while it remains to be seen if he can stick at the hot corner, his bat will play anywhere.

Pittsburgh Pirates: 1B/OF Tony Blanco Jr.

With a 6'7", 243-pound frame, Blanco is an imposing figure in the batter's box, and after two years in the Dominican Summer League he is having a breakthrough season in his stateside debut. The 19-year-old is hitting .315/.397/.574 with seven extra-base hits in 16 games, and he has some serious upward trajectory.

St. Louis Cardinals: OF Joshua Baez

When Baez makes contact, it's loud contact.

"The 6-foot-3, right-handed slugger had a 106.6 mph 90th-percentile exit velocity in 2023, third-best among Florida State Leaguers with at least 250 plate appearances," wrote MLB.com.

However, the 20-year-old is a .220/.332/.389 hitter with a 34.1 percent strikeout rate over four minor league seasons.

    Every MLB Team's Best Power-Hitting Prospect in 2024 (7)

Ivan MelendezDavid Durochik/Diamond Images via Getty Images

    Arizona Diamondbacks: 1B/3B Ivan Melendez

Melendez won 2022 Golden Spikes honors when he hit .387/.508/.863 with 32 home runs and 94 RBI in 67 games at the University of Texas. The 24-year-old posted a .923 OPS with 30 long balls in his first full professional season, and with limited value outside of what he does in the batter's box he will need to hit his way to the majors.

    Colorado Rockies: OF Yanquiel Fernández

Signed for $295,000 in 2019, Fernández flashed impressive power potential in 2022 (59 XBH, 21 HR, 109 RBI) and 2023 (53 XBH, 25 HR, 92 RBI) to emerge as one of the top prospects in the Colorado system. The 21-year-old is hitting .282/.330/.417 with five home runs and 31 RBI in 48 games at Double-A this season.

Los Angeles Dodgers: C/1B Dalton Rushing

With Will Smith signed to a long-term deal, Rushing has started seeing more action at first base, and he has the power profile to fit at that position as well. The 23-year-old slugged 23 home runs during his junior season at Louisville, and he has a .905 OPS with eight home runs and 35 RBI in 45 games at Double-A.

Teenage outfielder Josue De Paula has a 60-hit, 55-power profile, and he could develop into one of the best offensive prospects in the game in the coming years.

San Diego Padres: C Ethan Salas

Salas made his pro debut at Single-A as a 16-year-old last season, and he posted a .752 OPS with 13 doubles, nine home runs and 41 RBI in 66 games across three minor league levels. The left-handed hitter has as much offensive upside as any catching prospect in recent memory, and he has 60-grade power potential to unlock in game action.

San Francisco Giants: 1B Bryce Eldridge

The best two-way player in the 2023 draft, Eldridge has turned his focus exclusively to hitting where he has tremendous raw power packed into his 6'7", 223-pound frame. The 19-year-old has posted an .833 OPS with 13 home runs in 70 games since going No. 16 overall in the 2023 draft.
