Creativity researchers have been talking about whether constraints help or hurt creativity for some time now, but we still haven't quite figured out how, why, and when! ⭐ In my article for the rising star issue of the Creativity Research Journal, I argue that the perception of constraints matters more than the constraint itself. 💡 This has implications for how leaders talk about constraints such as budgets and timelines with their teams. What words a leader uses will impact how team members respond to the constraints, and in turn, how they process and use that constraint to impact the creative process. Thanks to the International Society for the Study of Creativity and Innovation (ISSCI), James Kaufman, Roni Reiter-Palmon, and Giovanni Emanuele Corazza for inviting me to be a part of this issue!
